Day 1

Day 2

Day 4
What can I say, I was injured making maple syrup! Yep, I accidentally poured scalding water on my foot! I couldn’t believe I did it, but I am happy to report that it healed beautifully and thought I would share how quickly it healed.
Day 1 (evening)
- Immediately I ran my foot under cold water to cool the area, thus “putting out the fire”
- Cut a large succulent leaf from my Aloe Vera plant, peeled it and applied generously
- Valerian tincture for pain, the burn was throbbing (Kava would also have been a good choice)
- Made a Burn Healing tincture (see formula below), took several times throughout the day for ~ 8 days.
- Did not wrap or cover burn, kept open to the air (Did not expose to the sun, as sun can cause further burning)
Burn Healing Tincture Formula (internal)

1 Part Red clover blossoms
1 Part Nettle
1 Part Skullcap
1 Part Marshmallow
1 Part Echinacea

Day 2
- Applied Aloe Vera generously
- Alternately applied Comfrey ointment around burn area (Calendula ointment or St John’s wort Oil would also have been a wise choice)

Day 3

- Took Burn Healing tincture several times a day
- Covered burn with a loose sock when out, at home allowed the air at the burn
- Burn improving nicely
By Day 3, I have had a few people give me advise on what I should be doing for my burn. Such as:
- You should go to the doctors. (The rule of thumb is if the burn is larger than 3 inches in diameter or covers a major joint, you should seek medical attention right away. I felt very confident in my research and in my body’s ability to heal this burn that was not larger than 3 inches or on a major joint)
- You should pop that blister. (Blisters are nature’s protection, the fluid-filled blister keeps the underlying skin clean, which prevents infection and promotes healing. New skin will form underneath the affected area and the fluid is simply absorbed.)
- I have just the ointment for you. (I have made a personal choice to stay away from over the counter conventional medication, opting always for natural products.)
- You should put butter on it. (If you have ever been told to put butter on a burn, ignore that advice. According to the University of Rochester Medical Center, putting a greasy substance on a burn will keep the heat in and make the healing process more difficult. It is interesting to note, that an old traditional burn remedy was to do just that! Applying butter that contained Calendula (as a colouring agent), however today’s butter does not contain the healing powers of Calendula.)
Day 4
- Applied Aloe Vera
- Alternately applied comfrey ointment around burn area (calendula ointment or St John’s wort Oil would also have been a wise choice)
- Took Burn Healing tincture several times a day
- Covered burn with a loose sock when out, at home allowed the air at the burn
- Burn improving nicely
- Marked improvement, yahoo!
Day 5-8
- Applied Aloe Vera
- Alternately applied comfrey ointment around burn area (calendula ointment or St John’s wort Oil would also have been a wise choice)
- Took Burn Healing tincture several times a day
- Healed beautifully
Please note: If your tetanus vaccination is not up to date, and you get burned, you should get a booster shot at your doctor’s office as soon as possible. Both minor and major burns can lead to tetanus, so it is important to protect yourself from this virus.
